health(ier) skillet

Sloppy Joes

I started cooking everything in a cast iron skillet a couple of years ago. Everything tastes so much better and is a whole lot healthier. Try cooking your next meal in a cast iron skillet, I promise it won't disappoint!

Why you should eat more beans

Beans help fight cancer! They can also help lower your cholesterol and lower your risk of hear disease. They are loaded with fiber, protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, such as copper, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium and zinc.

Chances are, you're probably not eating enough beans. We should all be having at least 3 cups a week.

Benefits of cooking in a cast iron skillet

Helps you get your daily intake of iron and is free of harmful synthetics & materials that the non-sticks pans may have.

Before you start using your cast iron skillet you should 'season' it

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Wash your skillet with warm water and mild dish soap, making sure to rinse and dry well afterwards. Pour out a very thin layer of your favourite cooking oil (vegetable oil is most commonly used). Using a paper towel or cloth, rub in the oil on both the inside AND the outside of your cast iron skillet. Place skillet in the oven upside down and use a foil lined
